In March of 2007, she
launched her business with a bang! Soror Toyi started her business to take
advantage of the tremendously valuable skills that she developed in the
corporate world: advertising/marketing, sales, and project management. Her most
difficult challenge was developing an effective business plan that identified a
particular niche in the marketplace. Soror Toyi overcame this challenge by
meeting with her attorney, accountant, and business planner to develop a plan
covering the financial, legal, and logistical expectations of the market. She
completed nearly 50 hours of research to determine her niche. As such, her
target market is working families that entertain in their home.
Soror Toyi’s advice to
those looking to become entrepreneurs:
Do the research.
Study the markets
and become certified or credentialed in what you want to do.
The competition is
fierce. If you start as a “side” business, be disciplined to put in the
work.
Set defined and
realistic goals and celebrate the small victories.
